Film oparty na motywach powieści Ptaki autorstwa norweskiego pisarza Tarjei Vessasa. Nastrój opowieści jest poetycki i pełen niedopowiedzeń. Główny bohater Mateusz (legendarna rola Franciszka Pieczki) to człowiek-odmieniec o duszy dziecka, który żyje w głębokiej harmonii z przyrodą, a na otaczający go świat reaguje szczerze i bezkompromisowo. W roku 1969 "Żywot Mateusza" zdobył Grand Prix (MFF dla Młodzieży)w Cannes.

 

 A story based on a novel entitled The Birds by a Norwegian writer – Tarjei Vessas. Its atmosphere is very poetic and mysterious. The main character Matthew is an outsider. He looks at the world surrounding him through the eyes of a child - in a very sincere and uncompromising way.
